Municipality of Rome will impose a new city tax on visitors staying in the city from 1 January 2011.

The new tax will be calculated on a per person, per night basis and will be charged directly at the hotel/property. The tax will apply for the first 10 nights of a visitors stay in Rome and will never apply to children under 10 years of age.

For example: if two adults have reserved a double room in a 3* hotel in Rome for 2 nights in 2011 (e.g. check-in 3 January 2011 check-out 5 January 2011) the hotel will collect 8 in city tax.
