Where to find the world’s hottest chillies

If you’re looking to spice up your life look no further than Trinidad and Tobago for the world’s hottest chilli. So hot it actually burned through the researchers’ latex gloves! The New Mexico State University Chile Pepper Institute researchers officially crowned the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion as the world’s hottest chilli.

While Trinidad and Tobago is home to the chilli with a deadly sting, there are a number of hot spots across the globe that serve up an eye-watering selection of chili peppers.

Mexico

Mexico is home to the jalapeño and other members of the capsicum family but of course if you really want to find the hot stuff, this is the place to be. In Mexico you can find pure capsaicin powder, which is highly toxic and could cause death! Search and compare: cheap flights to Mexico

India

In 2007, the BhutJolokia was crowned the world’s hottest chilli by the Guinness World Records. More than 40 times hotter than Tabasco sauce the pepper can be located in Bangladesh, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur in northern India. Search and compare: cheap flights to India

UK

One man with a love for the hot stuff developed the Infinity Chilli pepper in Lincolnshire last year. Reported to be hotter than the chilli used in hand grenades by the Indian military, the Infinity Chili outstrips the BhutJolokia chilli.
